Recent technological advances have greatly improved the performance and features of embedded systems. With the number of just mobile devices now reaching nearly equal to the population of earth, embedded systems have truly become global. These tendencies have also made the task of managing their power consumption extremely challenging. In recent years, several techniques have been proposed to address this issue. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) is a widely studied power management method, which has a goal to reduce the energy consumption by dynamically varying the CPU frequency or the supply voltage. RealTime DVFS (RT-DVFS) is a branch of DVFS, which reduces CPU energy consumption through DVFS, while at the same time ensures QoS by developing proper real-time task schedules. The paper presents the review of various DVFS scheduling algorithms which offer different approaches to utilize the CPU idle time to vary the frequency or the supply voltage and also different energy saving techniques to meet the critical
